Masi Khaja, MD

Masi Khaja, MD, is a highly qualified gastroenterologist providing specialist care for the population of Grand Junction, Colorado, at Gastroenterology Associates of Western Colorado.

Dr. Khaja grew up in the Morristown and Jersey City areas of New Jersey from the age of 10, after moving there with his family. His childhood dream was to become a doctor, and in 1999 he saw his dream come true when he graduated with a medical degree. He completed his internship in Brooklyn’s New York Methodist Hospital, an affiliate of Cornell University, where he felt drawn to the field of Gastroenterology, in which he now specializes.

Dr. Khaja is fellowship-trained, board-certified, and has an impressive record of publication in notable medical journals. His mission is to reduce the number of people colon cancer effects by promoting prevention and early detection of the disease through regular screening.  

In 2006, Dr. Khaja relocated to Grand Junction. He loves to spend time outdoors, skiing in the winter and taking part in a range of sporting activities during the summer. After spending many years in a large city, Dr. Khaja appreciates the small town atmosphere of Grand Junction and aims to provide outstanding service for the people in his community.

Joel Lans, MD, FACP, FACG

Gastroenterologist located in Grand Junction, CO

Dr. Lans joins Gastroenterology Associates of Western Colorado with more than 30 years of practicing the specialty of gastroenterology.

He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his
internal medicine residency and part of his GI fellowship at Wayne State University. He completed the third year of his GI fellowship in a therapeutic ERCP program in Wisconsin.

He practiced for one year in Fort Meyers, Florida; eight years in Champaign, Illinois and 20 years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Lans practiced for the last two years in Boise, Idaho where he set up a GI practice at a multispecialty clinic.

Dr. Lans is board certified in Gastroenterology, is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

He practices general GI including diseases of the upper and lower GI tract including reflux, peptic ulcer disease, diseases of the liver and pancreas, and inflammatory bowel disease. He performs Upper Endoscopies, Colonoscopies, Capsule Endoscopy, and has a great passion for helping patients.

Dr. Lans has four adult children and one grandson. Outside of work his interests include hiking, biking, fitness, nutrition and spending time with his family. He is also an avid sports fan.
